Saratoga Racecourse

We were invited to assist in the preparation of a masterplan for the backstretch areas at Saratoga Racecourse.

For six months of the year between April and October, Saratoga has approx. 2500 horses in training with 6 weeks of racing from July to the start of September that attracts almost 1 million racegoers each year.

Saratoga is the oldest surviving sporting venue in the United States with numerous historic properties over the 350 acre property.

We worked in conjunction with a local Saratoga based practice, Phinney Design Group, to review the equine facilities and to prepare a masterplan strategy that takes account of the historic nature of the site but also provides safe, modern, comfortable facilities for the training and racing of horses that would ensure the continued success of one of the world’s great racecourses.

The masterplan included for the provision of new barns and stable staff accommodation and the removal of inappropriate structures, roads and pathways with a complete rethink on vehicular access onto and across the site.
